DiskClone and SnapshotStream

May 18, 2011 at 2:14 PM

Hi,

I have been looking at the DiskClone example, and would like to add a file into the new image, for example \HELLO.TXT

I thought I would be able to use the SnapshotStream:

ntfs.OpenFile(@"\HELLO.TXT", FileMode.Create, FileAccess.ReadWrite);

but when I get the following exception:

"Excessive number of security descriptors - running into redundant storage area"

Why do I get this error and what is the correct way to add a file into the image before it has been written to disk?

Many Thanks.

Hi,

Has anyone had a chance to look at this?

Thanks,

Hi Mark,

Sorry for the delay - but I've been otherwise occupied at work for the last few weeks.

What you're attempting should work - and works for a few sample cases I tried.

You're seeing something pretty unusual that suggests there are large numbers of unique security descriptors on the disk - more than I've seen (and coded for) with discutils.

Cheers,
