MBR; where do I get a valid one?

I want to create bootable virtual disks. But as far as I understood it, I need to add the bootcode in the Format function (NTFS). Where can I get a valid one?
There is a difference between Vista and XP bootcode, right?

Are there images freely downloadable?

Any NTFS formatted disk has the appropriate bootcode in it.

You can get the MBR just by reading the first 512 bytes from a formatted disk, and the NTFS boot code is available by reading the contents of the \$Boot file.

A disk formatted by Windows 7/Vista is probably your best source if you want something that's able to boot the broadest range of OS's.
