Converting a virtual disk inplace?

Hey,

is there a way to convert a e.g. VHD inplace to a VMDK? Open the file and save the headers in the new format? ...

When it is possible, how would you code it?

There's nothing built into DiscUtils to do this, but you could make this work for 'fixed' discs.  A fixed VHD just has a special 512-byte footer at the end of the file.  If you create a .vmdk file that references the VHD as a fixed disk region (minus the 512 byte footer), it should work.

Cheers,

Thx for your hint.

Is there a possibility for dynamic disks too, or is it absolutley not possible caused by the techincs saving the junks of the disk or so?

For me, fixed disks are unusable, as hundreds of gigabyte to handle (copy, move or so) is a no way thing ... Dynamic disk can get that thick but mostly they aren't.

When there is a chance for dynamic disks too, I would make that to a feature request for discutils. :)
