Excessive number of security descriptors - running into redundant storage area

Jul 22, 2011 at 10:25 AM

Hi Ken,

I am getting this exception again when adding a file into the snapshot: Excessive number of security descriptors - running into redundant storage area

There are just over 84,000 files on the C drive causing this error.

I am trying to add in IntelIde.sys into the snapshot image about to be taken in DiskClone.

Stream outFileStream = ntfs.OpenFile(system32Drivers + "\\IntelIde.sys", FileMode.Create);

 Stream inFileStream = System.IO.File.Open(remoteFile, FileMode.Open);

 bool ret = copyStream(inFileStream, outFileStream);

 outFileStream.Close();

 inFileStream.Close();

Any help would be much appreciated.

This is Windows Server 2003, and I am using AlphaVSS to take the snapshot.

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,

This is an omission in DiscUtils - I haven't figured out what the right thing to do is when a file system contains a huge number of unique file descriptors.  I wasn't even sure it was possible - you've confirmed it is.

I'll copy it to a work item to look at this and figure out what should happen in this case.

Cheers,

Ken
